Under a hundred: Limited-time full male avatar

Under a hundred: Limited-time full male avatar

Normally I don’t blog about anything that costs more than L$75, but there have been rare exceptions in the past. Whenever I’ve done this, I try to label the post accordingly, thus this post is called ‘under a hundred’. Since this is a great offer for the guys out there (and offers like that tend to be few and far between!) it deserved to be blogged, despite coming in at a little over the price remit for SL for Nowt.

The item in question is a limited-time offer on Marketplace from R.icielli – of a full male avatar. The Brian avatar comprises: a modifiable shape, two hairbased skins (one midtone, one tanned – both shown in the first pic on this post), brown eyes, eyebrows, a pair of black boots, a fedora hat, plus two full mesh outfits: one pair of black jeans and one pair of blue jeans (four sizes of each) and one black blazer with white t-shirt and one brown leather jacket with black t-shirt (again, four sizes of each).

The avatar is currently on a promotional offer price of just L$99 on Marketplace.

Please note: this is a limited-time offer. At some point in the future this price may go up.

PurpleMoon 16,000 members group gift

PurpleMoon 16,000 members group gift

Here’s a gorgeous dress to wear at any time, but it’ll come in especially handy if you have a posh ‘do’ to go to at Halloween ;)

The PurpleMoon Creations group has reached 16,000 members, and as a thank you Poulet Koenkamp has set out the gorgeous Jules Gown in orange and black (gloves included) as a group gift.

The group has a L$50 join fee, but gifts of this quality are given out on a regular basis, plus wearing your group tag when purchasing in-store earns you store credit (and, since PurpleMoon takes part in many of the cheap store offers, such as 60L Weekends, if you buy those anyway it all adds up!). Copy this link and paste it into chat and click it to bring up the group join window, then – with your group tag active – head inside the store and find the large board beside the reception desk. Click it, and this gorgeous dress will be yours!

I got the lime, now where’s my tequila?!

Hi, peeps!

Ugh, it feels like it’s been raining for weeks here. When I logged into SL this morning, I wanted to find something summery and bright to cheer myself up, and find it I did!

Not only have the Baby Monkey shoe lucky boards been replenished with new items, but there’s also a new set of lucky boards upstairs, filled with mesh content. Mar won a great pair of faded black jeans and a fab one-shouldered summery top, and together with the July freebie sandals from SF Design, and a limited edition (this weekend only) gift from IKON and cheapie makeup from e.e.Linter, she’s all lime-d out!

Maschienenwerk lives… as Santo!

Maschienenwerk lives… as Santo!

Glory be! Maschienenwerk has not vanished off the face of SL; it’s merely re-branded as Santo. There are slightly fewer freebie items than there once were, but still plenty to be had in the store. If you join the (free) group you can also get other items, such as a fatpack of ‘Kicks’ sneakers, and two photorealistic avatars: one male, one female.

It’s one of these avatars that I’m showcasing today. I’ve noticed that it’s relatively easy (as always) to find good-quality cheap and free black skins for female avatars, but for male avatars a bit of spending is required. Well, Santo has put out as a group gift this amazing Ron avatar, which features a muscular shape, a fabulously-photoreal skin, brow shape, and brown eyes:

You’ll need to join the Santo group (paste this link into chat and click it; it’s free-to-join) and have your group tag active in order to get the avatar.

The Affliction Jeans and Camo T are also free, and you’ll find those on the floor of the store. The 6-Colour Kicks pack is also a group gift, and if you look around at that end of the store you’ll find tons of other great freebies, from boots and sneakers to t-shirts and jeans, even some mesh clothing.

You’ll find Santo in the middle of the incredible Wastelands regions, so get your grunge gear out and head on out. Here’s your beat-up old Hummer to get there ;)

Useful gadgets #2: The Eternity Teleporter Pad

Useful gadgets #2: The Eternity Teleporter Pad

It’s been a long time since I wrote my first Useful Gadgets post (in fact, it was so long ago that it was on the old blog!) but I’m back with another in the series, and this time it’s for something many of us use: teleporters.

This particular teleporter is not only completely free, it’s modifiable and very easy to customise. I use it at my home location, and I can set up each pad in a matter of two minutes. While it’s not as fancy as some of the pricey, networked pad systems you can buy, it’s still great for moving between levels in a store or between your land-based home and skybox(es)!

Ricielli-gance!

Ricielli-gance!

Ricielli is one of the best places for finding cheap mesh content, when they have their frequent store hunts! The current hunt is called the Valentines Brazilian Hunt. If you head to the Ricielli store you’ll find 19 pink heart balloons in the mesh department and one pink heart balloon in the skins department. Each balloon costs L$15 to buy, and most contain mesh clothing or accessories. There are large pictures all around the sim, showing you all the hunt prizes, so you can note down the numbers of the things you really want and go looking for those balloons, or you can click here to see the image. They’re really easy to find!

Here, Mar has put together an elegant look from six of the hunt items (please note: the hairpiece is just a side ponytail; Mar had to find a hairbase to go with it!). The hairpiece, dress, boots, and bag are all mesh items. The hairpiece comes in multiple colours, and the makeup is a multiple pack with lots of different palettes.

I look in my Magic Mirror, and I can see…

…Mar! Yay, she can see me!

Heck, if you don’t remember watching Romper Room as a tiny thing, then your childhood was incomplete! The excitement of the host seeing you in her Magic Mirror was brilliant! And here’s something else that’s brilliant: the cute little baby blue polkadot mesh romper that G.Field sent out as a subscribe-o-matic gift!

Everything in this pic is a free group or subscribe-o-matic gift (except for the jewellery, which is all free on Marketplace)! To make things easier I’ll list the group links and the stores below, rather than burying them in a load of text ;) Just paste the links into local chat in your viewer.

Romper: G.Field (store) – subscribe-o-matic gift
Hair: Dura-Dura* (store) (group) – thanks to Spacecase Munster‘s fab Virtual Vagabonds group for the tip about this!
Skin: Al Vulo!* (store) (group) – click the sign inside the little shed
Shoes: Gabriel* (store) (group)
Eyes: IKON* (store) (group)
Bangles: PM Delight Water Bangles Set (Marketplace)
Earrings: PM Delight Water Set (Marketplace)

*Group tag must be worn when clicking in order to receive your gift.

All groups are (at the time of writing this post) free-to-join. Please don’t come and yell at me if you come across this post in several month’s time and the group’s owners have decided to instigate a join fee!

Headsup & three gifts: the IKON group has changed!

Headsup & three gifts: the IKON group has changed!

Hi, peeps!

Here’s a quick headsup and also an alert for three fabulous freebie gifts, all in the same place. The IKON store has changed its group. Previously, the group was called IKON V.I.P. but it seems that too many people were confused by the periods in the ‘V.I.P.’ bit, so there’s now a new group, called IKON VIP. Not only is it easier to remember, it’s also holding three stunning packs of eyes in its notices right now, to encourage everyone to move over to the new group!

The group is free-to-join, and membership enables you (while wearing your group tag) to grab the monthly freebie that goes out in the store. If you’re a member of the old IKON group, you need to make sure you switch to the new one (you can leave the old one when you’ve changed over) because the old one will soon be gone. And anyone wanting fabulous eyes should join the new group anyway!

Paste this link into open chat in your viewer, open up the chat window, and click the link to bring up the group join window. Once you’ve joined, check the group’s notices for one pair of Sunrise Eyes in Arabian Blue Light, one pair of Horizon v2 Eyes in Pale Glass, and one pair of Utopia Eyes in Dark red (perfect for the vampires and otherkin among us!)

Here are the Sunrise eyes:

Those Little Questions: another general grab-bag!

Those Little Questions: another general grab-bag!

Hi peeps! Here’s another in my ‘Those little questions’ series, where I try to give answers to the questions in search terms that lead people to the SL for Nowt blog. There are no silly questions in SL. We all started out as complete newbies, and we all wondered the same things, so here I hope to help you out with some answers :)

You can find the questions on the old blog archived here, and a special Those Little Questions all about skyboxes here. Check out this post’s tag for more :)

Today’s set of questions is a general grab-bag. Behind the cut you’ll find out…

– How to say your avatar’s doing something in Second Life
– How can you tell if someone is chatting with someone else on Second Life?
– How to get back to the starting point in Second Life
– How can I stop people from camming into my house in Second Life?

– What do I do when someone I bought something for in Second Life deletes their account?
– What happens when you ignore/block/mute someone in Second Life?
– How do I know if someone’s ignored/blocked/muted me in Second Life?

What newbies to Second Life now see

What newbies to Second Life now see

UPDATE: Since this post is attracting an inordinate number of spam comments (all of which are being caught by my spam filter, but it’s still a pain to keep emptying it) I’m disabling comments on it.

Hi peeps!

Normally a post like this would go onto my Ponderings blog, but since it’s related to the newbie experience I’m putting it here.

Every now and then I create a new alt, to see what the ‘Welcome to Second Life’ experience is like. There was a time when it was pretty stable and didn’t change. You first rezzed at an Orientation Island with a tutorial HUD on your screen that directed you to do things, told you how to walk, to drive vehicles, to chat to other people, to buy things, to change your looks; basically how to do the important stuff you’d want to do in a virtual world.

The welcome experience has gone through several iterations since then, but they always included tutorials on the important stuff. Until now.

This is where Mar’s new alt rezzed:

Now, put yourself in the shoes of a complete newbie (remember how confused you were when you first rezzed?) and hop behind the cut…
