[ Mesh ] – Free Christmas dress at Curious Kitties

[ Mesh ] – Free Christmas dress at Curious Kitties

So I finally installed a mesh-capable viewer so I could blog some of the great free and cheap mesh content available on the grid. Please take note of the tags and headers to these posts: you’ll need a mesh-capable viewer in order to see these items as they’re meant to be seen.

I visited the Curious Kitties Mesh Cafe, wherein they have some great freebies set out amid the new, priced mesh items. I found this fabby little Christmas dress, absolutely free, and paired it with the L$10 glittery mesh pumps from Leverocci, in the With Love hunt (ends Jan 6th 2012 and each item costs L$10).

Free textures are always great, and there are some great Linden-made sets available for you to use in your creations at the Linden Home Infohubs. Plus, you can have a lot of fairy-chasing fun at one of the Infohubs, and wander around a truly stunning two-sim build at another. What more could you want from a few hours of exploring?

Tips & tricks: Hassle-free cheapie shopping on Marketplace

Tips & tricks: Hassle-free cheapie shopping on Marketplace

Today I thought I would put together a post containing some useful tips and tricks for SL Marketplace, the official out-world shopping site for Second Life. This will by no means be an exhaustive list, but it will contain a few handy things I’ve found out and will hopefully help you to get the most out of your Marketplace shopping experience.

Vamp it up with new default avatars and some great freebies!

Vamp it up with new default avatars and some great freebies!

Check in your inventory’s Library folder, peeps. There are some new default avatars available to you. Open the Library > Clothing > Initial Outfits folder and scroll down to find six vampires and six mesh werewolves. The vampires are from Pulse (and feature some awesome skins and hair) and the mesh weres are courtesy of Damien Fate.

Since I don’t use a mesh-capable viewer I can’t preview the weres for you, but I can show you the vampires! There are three female and three male, and don’t forget: you don’t have to wear everything in one go! For the leader pic in this post Mar is wearing skin and hair from one of the new female avatars, shirt and pants from one of the new male avatars, plus a fantastic free gothic unisex coat from Davinel and new free unisex black leather boots from Gabriel!

Hop behind the cut for pics of all the new vampire avatars, plus more details on the other freebies :)

The sort of comment I will not publish

The sort of comment I will not publish

I rarely check the original SL for Nowt blog for new comments these days, as I have the ‘blog has moved’ image in the sidebar (which is viewable on every single page) and most people would – if they wanted to find the new posts – head to the new blog.

However, people still do comment on there, even on posts that are several years old. This is because the old blog got pretty high in search rankings because I had it for so long and it was rather popular. Many of the posts there have been linked elsewhere, primarily my inventory management page, and searching for popular ‘info about Second Life’ type posts will usually show my ’30 (and more) things every newbie should know’ post near the top, which makes it a prime target for those with a personal grudge against some organisation or person within SL to try and ‘warn’ new residents about that organisation/person. That post is also linked to on the official SL Wiki, which makes it (in some commenter’s eyes) an ‘officially-approved’ article, which might carry the weight of Linden Lab endorsement.

That post still gets a hell of a lot of views each week.

Sorry folks, but I’m not here to support your personal vendettas. When I see comments like this in my pending queue –

– they go straight into trash. I don’t care about your petty little disagreements or personal battles with other factions/clans/vampires/clubs/what-the-hell-ever. My blog is not your bloody soapbox, okay?

Weekend bargain alert: Closing sale at L’Abel

Weekend bargain alert: Closing sale at L’Abel

UPDATE: The sale is now over and the vendors are all gone.

Ladies, hotfoot over to L’Abel, where the entire store’s stock is on sale for eye-boggling prices. L’Abel is closing down, so if you hurry (the sale was announced over a week ago in the store’s group, but I’m not sure how much longer it’ll be ongoing) you can grab separates from as little as L$10. There are only five prices in the store: 10, 25, 45, 79, and 99 L$. Mar snagged several bargains.

Remember, this is a limited-time offer. Check the date of this post if you come across it in a month’s time and the store’s no longer there (and please don’t send me bitchy IMs, as just happened to me when I logged in and someone couldn’t find limited-time freebies that I blogged about in September!).

BOO!

BOO!

Come down off the ceiling. I’m not that scary! :p

Guess what, peeps? Frick is back! Yay! Fricka Morgath has set up shop again, and a gorgeous little Halloweeny shop it is, too, sitting in a lovely autumnal skybox surround. She currently has seven witches’ hats in the store, set out for L$1 each. Between them they contain five skins and two dresses, so hustle your orange-and-black butts over there and get hunting. It’s not difficult, and you should find them pretty easily. Also, hover your cursor over the ads in the store, because many of the skins are set for sale at cheaper prices than the ads show!

Now, Mar’s not gonna bombard you with Halloween stuff, so unless something else spookily great turns up, this is your Halloween outfit post for this year. She had a lot of fun in the sim that she visited to take these pics. It’s a great place to take your friends; full of spooky surprises!

Hop behind the cut for credits and tons more fun pics!

Quick freebie fix: Halloween eyes from Amacci

Quick freebie fix: Halloween eyes from Amacci

Ladies and gents, hie thee to Amacci where you will find (in both the eyes section and on the big freebie wall in the hair section) two pairs of grey/brown eyes set out for free: one pair with a normal sclera (the white of the eye) and one with a completely black sclera.

You’ll land at the landing point (the store is pretty busy, so fly before you take the teleport; that way you can rise up and away from anyone idling at the landing point, instead of flailing!) then head east (following the crowd!) and go into the hair section. Just past the first wall on your right is the freebie wall, and you’ll find the eyes there. Here’s a direct link that should place a red arrow on your screen to the freebie wall.

Inventory De-Cluttering Schedule: Get rid of your spares!

Inventory De-Cluttering Schedule: Get rid of your spares!

If you’ve been in-world for any length of time then chances are you have spares of something. Whether it’s gifts from groups that you received once, then picked up from group notices when you checked them again and didn’t realise you already had them, or whether you’re a fan of the ‘Fish for This’ game at Sn@tch or you play a lot of gatchas, or whether you just like to hang around lucky chairs and lucky boards a lot and get spares when you’re the only person there with the correct initial letter to ‘bump’ the chair or board (even though you already have that item).

It’s time to get rid of those spares. Today we have one simple thing to do, so there won’t be separate tasks according to how much time you have spare.

I want you to sort your inventory by name. Those of you using an old-style viewer will find it at the top of the inventory menu (Sort > By Name). Those of you using Viewer 2 and 3 viewers… I’m not so sure. (I wish Linden Lab would stop messing around and settle on one viewer!) I would imagine the ability to sort by name is somewhere inside the little cog that you see right at the bottom of your inventory window, so look in there for it.

Now head into your Objects folder (stop cringing over there; I know it’s humungous!) and start scrolling down slowly. At some point you’ll come across ‘doubles’, like Mar has here:

She actually has three of one item! So she’s going to keep just one of those marked doubles and throw the rest away. That’s five inventory items she’s managed to get rid of. Might not seem like much, but that’s just one screen of a huge Object folder scroll.

Note: If the item is transferrable, then pack it off to an alt, or create a new ! Give to newbies folder so you can hand things out to new residents.

One other thing you need to do (and this is something that those with a bit more time to spare can get around to) is search to see if you’ve already unpacked those items, but forgotten to delete the boxes from your inventory. This is a huge inventory clutterer, and we’ve all been guilty of it. The quick unpacking before we log off, and we leave the boxes (assuming they’re not No Copy) sitting in our objects folder, where they soon get lost in the general miasma of All That Stuff.

Take it slowly. Sort by name again and open two inventory windows (File > New Window), so you can search for the unpacked item in one and keep track of the Objects folder in the other. Make it easier by working store-by-store, and if you have stuff that you haven’t yet unpacked then unpack it now, check out the contents. Try it on. If you like it, file it in your second window where you would normally file it (or create a new folder in your growing inventory filing system to put it in). If you don’t like it, bin it! OR, if it’s something you don’t want to wear or use right now (maybe it’s season-specific, like a Christmas tree or a Valentine’s gown) then create a new folder called ! To Be Archived, and put it in there, so you know to box it up into the relevant archive when you have more time.

One more thing (I sound like Columbo here!) – when you’ve unpacked those boxes make sure you delete the original one from your Objects folder. Not doing that is what got you into this mess in the first place!
