New group gifts from Kunglers and Baby Monkey

New group gifts from Kunglers and Baby Monkey

I love it when two group gifts from separate stores come together to make a great look! Kunglers have just released their May group gift, and it’s a stylish pair of grey silky pants with a sash, plus a purple bandeau top. The group is L$50 to join and you get a freebie every month. Just paste this link into chat, click it, and the group’s profile should pop up for you to join.

To add to this, another group gift has gone out in the Baby Monkey store. Join the (free-to-join) Baby Monkey Junkies group (again, paste that link into chat) and head to the store with your group tag active. On the wall you’ll find the Elise Summer Pumps in Plum, as well as several other group gifts. Together with the Kunglers gift, it makes a great summer look :)

Oh, I almost forgot the bangles! Well, those are already in your inventory library. Just look in Library > Clothing > Initial Outfits > Female Bollywood Outfit, and you’ll find them in there!

Hop behind the cut for a closer look at the shoes :)

New store build at Baby Monkey!

New store build at Baby Monkey!

Pixie has put the finishing touches to her new Baby Monkey store build and you’ll now land slap in the middle of the lucky chair, Midnight Mania, gatcha, group gifts, and other goodies section. On the wall right now are some lovely cheapies: the 10L Beach Bag with texture-change straps, texture-change towel (tucked into the bag), texture-change flipflops, and texture-change towel with built-in pose (for rezzing). That’s pretty much your entire beach kit for just 10L! Now go find a bikini or pair of shorts and lounge on some golden sand for a while :)

Also on that wall are the Ultimate Clemmie shoes, available in eight colours for just 10L per pair.

Skin & Shape Expo 2011 – List of freebies and cheapies

NOTE: The Expo is now over. (I’m still seeing on my blog stats that people are clicking the links to go there. The expo was during May 2011 and isn’t running now!)

Hi, peeps! I’ve just been running around the Skin and Shape Expo 2011, trying to find all of the freebies and cheapies for you.

Behind the cut you’ll find a simple list, with SLurls (because I literally don’t have time to take pics of all these for you!) You’ll most likely arrive at the landing point in the middle of each region, so what I suggest you do is paste each region’s list into chat before you leave your home, then – once you’re in the region – click each SLurl and select ‘Show on Map’. That will give you a red arrow to follow in order to find the relevant booth.

Please note: a few of the booths haven’t been filled yet. Also, if you see a store you like, grab a landmark and make sure to check out their full-priced items when you have a little spare cash!

Hop behind the cut for the list :)

No pics, because I’m not giving away which shoes are on offer, but there are some great ones to find, and in good colours, too!

Freebie etiquette

Freebie etiquette

There is a very large freebie culture in Second Life, and many blogs (such as this one!) are dedicated – or partially dedicated – to writing about it. There are also some unspoken rules – the do’s and don’ts of freebie culture – which most people in the ‘freebiesphere’ adhere to. However, a few do not.

Just because a rule is unspoken that doesn’t mean it should go unheeded. And, if you think, “Who is she to tell me what the rules are?” then I only have this to say: they’re not really even ‘rules’. They are, in the main, simple and common courtesy.

Hop behind the cut for a few do’s and don’ts: the basics of Freebie Etiquette :)

Summer blue

Summer blue

Today I decided to find out where Anuenue had moved to, as their Dirt Skirt has long been a favourite of mine. I found the store sharing space with another one, and on wandering around I found these gorgeous little Tiered Skirts. Mar bought the blue version, but she might go back for a couple more! They’re a great mixture of sculpted and flexi prims, and they move nicely when you walk.

From that, she’s pulled together a pretty, summery look.

The top is from the Sn@tch Peep Show fatpack, and comes with a tintable bow which you can match to any of the colours in the pack. Shoes are (of course!) Mar’s beloved Noir Stilettos from HoC. Hair is a new purchase: Karen, from Truth (caramel shade, from the browns pack), and Mar’s accessorised it with one of the lovely little Juanita Hair Flowers from Ticky Tacky (just L$10 for the whole pack on SL Marketplace). Her earrings are also a bargain find from Ticky Tacky on SL Marketplace: the L$1 (yes, really!) Every Girl Must Have Pearls earrings. Nails are the classic Clear French Square Beige prim nails from Love Soul. Finally, her skin is Tuli’s Gina 02 (a past Dressing Room item),  and her poses are from C’est la Vie.

More photos behind the cut :)

Oh, system skirt…

Oh, system skirt…

(To the tune of ‘O, Christmas Tree!’)

I was so glad to see a great designer like Ivey Deschanel of Sn@tch recently releasing an item that contains a system skirt. The system skirt is much maligned in SL, and it does have its limitations. It splits open in many crossed-leg poses, stretches weirdly in wider-leg stances, has that strange gap between waistband and body, but it’s still the best way to get that vintage ‘pencil skirt’ look if you’re a lover of vintage clothing, and I’ve seen it treated in many interesting ways (not the least being as the skirt section of a male jacket).

However, the one thing that most people complain about with regard to the system skirt is, “It makes my butt look HUGE!”

The key to working around that? Make a no-butt shape. Make a copy of your usual shape and dial down the butt and saddlebag sliders to pretty much zero. You’ll look very boyish (and possibly in dire need of a cheeseburger!) if you wear that shape with a normal skirt, or with pants, but wear it with a system skirt and the skirt will give you your hips and butt back; without that extra padding! It’s a good idea to rename that shape something like “no butt, for system skirt”, so you can just search for “system” and find it quickly.

I’m going to make a more detailed post about this on the main blog soon, but today’s was inspired by a cute skirt suit I found in Ivalde’s discount room. I bought the suit in both brown and beige, and mixed and matched them up:

The suit is called Brianna and was just 20L per set. Yes, it’s a little old, and obviously hand-drawn, but I like it for that authenticity. Mar chose the colour-change Flapper Pumps from Baby Monkey’s discount room, to go with them. Her bag is also from Baby Monkey (although I’m not sure if it’s still available there) – the Lulu Purse. Hair is the freebie Renee from Audacity at Savoir Hair and the earrings are the Oracle Gold Earrings with African Jade from Lilipily, which – if I recall correctly – were a DSN (Designer Showcase Network) gift. Poses are by Glitterati.

There are a couple more pictures behind the cut :)
