Maschienenwerk lives… as Santo!

Maschienenwerk lives… as Santo!

Glory be! Maschienenwerk has not vanished off the face of SL; it’s merely re-branded as Santo. There are slightly fewer freebie items than there once were, but still plenty to be had in the store. If you join the (free) group you can also get other items, such as a fatpack of ‘Kicks’ sneakers, and two photorealistic avatars: one male, one female.

It’s one of these avatars that I’m showcasing today. I’ve noticed that it’s relatively easy (as always) to find good-quality cheap and free black skins for female avatars, but for male avatars a bit of spending is required. Well, Santo has put out as a group gift this amazing Ron avatar, which features a muscular shape, a fabulously-photoreal skin, brow shape, and brown eyes:

You’ll need to join the Santo group (paste this link into chat and click it; it’s free-to-join) and have your group tag active in order to get the avatar.

The Affliction Jeans and Camo T are also free, and you’ll find those on the floor of the store. The 6-Colour Kicks pack is also a group gift, and if you look around at that end of the store you’ll find tons of other great freebies, from boots and sneakers to t-shirts and jeans, even some mesh clothing.

You’ll find Santo in the middle of the incredible Wastelands regions, so get your grunge gear out and head on out. Here’s your beat-up old Hummer to get there ;)

Headsup & three gifts: the IKON group has changed!

Headsup & three gifts: the IKON group has changed!

Hi, peeps!

Here’s a quick headsup and also an alert for three fabulous freebie gifts, all in the same place. The IKON store has changed its group. Previously, the group was called IKON V.I.P. but it seems that too many people were confused by the periods in the ‘V.I.P.’ bit, so there’s now a new group, called IKON VIP. Not only is it easier to remember, it’s also holding three stunning packs of eyes in its notices right now, to encourage everyone to move over to the new group!

The group is free-to-join, and membership enables you (while wearing your group tag) to grab the monthly freebie that goes out in the store. If you’re a member of the old IKON group, you need to make sure you switch to the new one (you can leave the old one when you’ve changed over) because the old one will soon be gone. And anyone wanting fabulous eyes should join the new group anyway!

Paste this link into open chat in your viewer, open up the chat window, and click the link to bring up the group join window. Once you’ve joined, check the group’s notices for one pair of Sunrise Eyes in Arabian Blue Light, one pair of Horizon v2 Eyes in Pale Glass, and one pair of Utopia Eyes in Dark red (perfect for the vampires and otherkin among us!)

Here are the Sunrise eyes:

Take that as gospel!

Take that as gospel!

Ladies, there is the most insanely gorgeous pair of mesh ankle boots waiting for you out there, and they’re absolutely FREE!

Gospel Voom, of GoS, has put this fabulous pair of pink Desire mesh ankle boots out as the store’s gift for the Mesh Around Hunt. The prize includes five rigged mesh sizes (for the newbies here, rigged mesh cannot be resized, hence you get several sizes in the pack, but they are directly attached to your avatar’s skeleton, so they move more realistically when you move) plus a bonus unrigged pair (which can be resized).

The Mesh Around Hunt blog is here, complete with all the SLurls you need, plus hints to prize locations. The hunt runs until June 15th :)

Oh, oh, retro!

Oh, oh, retro!

If you follow Mar on twitter you’ll have seen her squealing about the awesome stuff available at the Retro Swap Meet on The Wash sim. Prices are as low as L$10 or less, and there’s tons of stuff, from 1920s glamourpusses to 50s and 60s vixens and 70s foxy chicks. Guys, there’s some nice retro pieces available for you, too!

Mar’s put together a great summery look from three pieces bought at the Retro Swap Meet (L$10 per item, so a total of L$30) plus two group gifts.

The hair is a fabulous subscribe-o-matic gift from Truth Hair. Battle your way through the crowds (the store is always packed) and – if you’re not already in the subscribe-o, give it a click and wait until you’re registered. Once you see that you’ve been added to the database you (and anyone already in the group) can click again, choose ‘history’ from the menu and navigate to the most recent notice, dated May 26th. Click the relevant number and wait until you’re sent the gift. Inside you’ll find a full fatpack of the gorgeous Jessie mesh hair.

Mar’s Micha Top (tropical) is from the Artilleri stall at the Retro Swap Meet. You’ll get a pack of three tops for L$10 there. Her shoes and jewellery are from the Ear Candy stall, here. Her capris are from the free Aqua Halter and White Capris set from Moulliez, here on Marketplace. And, finally, her (hilariously-named!) Studious Tart glasses are from a humungous fatpack sent out to members of the Nomine subscribe-o-matic.

The Retro Swap Meet finishes on June 6th, so you have another week to check it all out :)

Gorgeous glamour!

Gorgeous glamour!

Hi peeps!

I have some lovely things to show you today, and if you don’t feel all glammed-up after grabbing this stuff then there’s no hope for you!

First up, there’s PurpleMoon Creations’ 14,000 members group gift. There’s a L$50 fee to join the group (paste this link into chat and click it) but it’s totally worth it. Go to the PurpleMoon Creations store with your group tag active and head inside. Halfway down on your right, just past the customer service desk, you’ll see the group gift display. Click it for this stunning pale blue gown, complete with armlets and roses for your hair. Also check group notices, as there’s a great set of polished wood jewellery in there right now!

Hop behind the cut for a closer pic of the dress, plus info on the skin, and the completely FREE (and low-prim!) skybox :)

Mar’s Guide to: Making a little hideaway for yourself

Mar’s Guide to: Making a little hideaway for yourself

If there’s one thing a lot of us want in SL, it’s a little place to call our own. Previously, I’ve given you a tutorial to make a very simple little 10m skybox to get changed in (and live in, if you want!) but that method doesn’t give you much leeway for decorating the walls; it’s more of a one-texture-all-over kind of thing.

To that end, here is a slightly more detailed tutorial for building a small skybox home of your own. This one is adaptable to any size, although I’ve only worked with a 10m box. It allows much greater texture customisation of the walls, and I’ve included a really nifty little hint about how to save prims, which is something we all want to do when we own land. Every land parcel only allows you so many prims, so every few you can shave off here and there gives you more to put towards something else, like furniture :)

Today’s guide will show you how to make a bright spring hideaway, full of gorgeous colour. I’m also going to show you a few cheap (and free) decor items that go nicely with this spring hideaway, and over the next few months I hope to be able to re-use this hideaway, re-texturing and re-furnishing it to show you different ideas.

Hop behind the cut, and let’s get stuck in to building!

Monkey Blue!

Monkey Blue!

UPDATE: The Baby Monkey group is no longer free-to-join.

Hi peeps! Here’s a quick freebie fix, all from one location: Baby Monkey!

The sweater is from the group gift wall (the group is free to join – paste this link into chat and click on it to bring up the join window, then with your tag enabled click the items on the gift wall), the boots are from the lucky boards in the main room, and the mesh skirt is from the Midnight Mania board upstairs in the Mesh Room. (Remember, you need to be using a mesh-enabled viewer such as the official Second Life viewer, or Firestorm etc, to be able to see mesh items.)

Edit: Sorry, peeps. Getting comment-spammed to hell on these latest three posts, so I’m disabling comments on them.
